Tasting notes
Elegant, floral notes of sandalwood and gardenia blossom are layered with tropical notes of pineapple and ripe mango, and a hint of sweet, toasty banana bread. The hot 2023 vintage brought higher sugar levels, resulting in softer acidity than usual. While vibrant, the typical sweet scent of Delaware remains subtle. On the palate, delicate notes of kumquat and hassaku citrus mingle with a refreshing touch of mint, while a gentle umami depth gradually unfolds. Best consumed on the day of opening.

Sea bream or sea bass cured with kombu, clams or mussels steamed in white wine, smoked salmon salad, mountain vegetable tempura, yuba or tofu dishes, shio-koji marinated grilled chicken, pork ginger, roast duck with yuzu-kosho sauce, Grilled eel with sweet soy glaze (unagi kabayaki)
Winemaking
An orange wine made from Delaware grapes grown by the young farming collective Budō to Ikiru in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. The whole bunches underwent around two months of maceration before pressing, followed by ageing and maturation in amphora for about one year and three months. Bottled without added sulphites, and neither fined nor filtered.
The “vin-shu plus” series began after the winery’s founding year, when the vineyards were almost completely lost. In order to start over from scratch, the vineyards were given up and instead grapes from growers across Japan were carefully selected, marking the beginning of Botanical Life’s négociant range. Within this series, the “terra” line represents a special cuvée made only from the finest grapes of the year. Fermentation and long ageing in amphora give the wine a deeper, more complex character.
