Tasting notes
A fresh and approachable semi-sparkling white wine with a gentle pétillant character. Aromas of white peach, lychee, Japanese pear, and apple are layered with subtle lactic notes reminiscent of yoghurt and cultured dairy. The palate combines a delicate citrus-peel bitterness with flavours evoking lemon curd and cream cheesecake, balanced by refreshing acidity and fine bubbles. Light, lively, and easy to enjoy, yet with an underlying depth and texture. Serve well chilled. Best enjoyed within a few days after opening.
Food pairing
Sea bream cured with kombu, vegetable tempura, steamed prawns, grilled scallops, ricotta pasta, white fish carpaccio, steamed prawn dumplings, spring rolls, peach and burrata salad, fresh goat’s cheese.
Winemaking
This wine is made primarily from Shine Muscat purchased from growers in Tomi City, Nagano. After harvest, the grapes were dried for approximately one week, then destemmed, crushed, and left on the skins for a full day before being pressed using a vertical basket press. A portion of the juice was concentrated through cryo-extraction, enhancing both acidity and palate weight.
Fermentation took place in resin tanks. At bottling, frozen grape juice reserved from the harvest was added to initiate secondary fermentation in bottle. The wine has an alcohol content of 10%, and no additives were used.
Although this pétillant reaches approximately 2.0 bar of pressure at 10°C, the extended period spent on lees resulted in relatively little sediment or cloudiness. When thoroughly chilled before opening, it is unlikely to foam excessively.
“Petit Petit” is a pétillant designed to showcase the floral aromatics and gentle fruit character of Shine Muscat in an approachable and easy-drinking style. While the drying process and cryo-extraction contribute concentration and texture, the fine bubbles and refreshing acidity keep the wine light, vibrant, and highly drinkable.
The label artwork was created by the winemaker’s daughter and features a shima-enaga (long-tailed tit), a small bird beloved in Japan. The charming bird illustrations, renewed each year, have become one of the wine’s most distinctive and endearing features.
